To use your existing number, you will need to pick an internet based fax provider that allows you to port (transfer) your number into them. MyFax allows you to port your number to them for a $20 fee. According to the FCC website, you will initiate the porting process by contacting the new company, which in turn will contact your current company to start the process of porting your number. The FCC makes it very clear that you shouldn’t terminate your service with your existing company before you initiate service with the new company. Once your number has been ported, you will be able to use the internet fax program you chose with your existing fax number. Using your existing fax number is convenient, because you won’t have to message all of your contacts that your fax number has changed.
